Hoping Sam drops the gloves with someone tonight. Would be interesting to see if he goes after someone in particular or it’s just a random act..

Oh and 2-2nd round picks is nothing for a top 6 Power Forward!

Yes, but we're talking about Sam Bennett.

Markstrom gets pulled after 4 first period goals. The beginning of the season was a fluke for him and he will finish the season with a 2.90 GAA and .900 Save%. Six million on this guy.

15goal Sam Bennett vs 4goal Sean Monahan. Pick your poison.

I guess you're a new fan? Bennett wasn't a top 6 power forward when he was a Flame.
He was given plenty of chances but never did anything with them. He was a beast a few times in the playoffs, but his regular seasons were always highlighted by bad penalties and not really much else. He just didn't fit with the team and then maybe/maybe didn't demand a trade. Not much else Treliving could've done with that.

I really don't think there's anything wrong with Markstrom. He hasn't been letting in any soft goals and is moving fine. It's mostly been the defence imploding in front of him and some bad luck.

This argument has fallen flat a bunch of times on here and FN. I agree with you. People forget that Monahan used to be an offensive force and Bennett was never getting his minutes.

This team has lacked depth behind the first line for a looooong time and it's really hindered a lot of their gifted prospects. That's what makes me mad about Treliving more than anything. He listened to Dutter and got three 30+ grinders when he needed some offensive juice instead. The great thing about Dutter is he can turn offensively gifted players into 200 ft players, I'm not sure why he went out and got those guys (Pitlick for a 4th?! wtf)

I wouldn't say "no" soft goals, but Markstrom has been only average for a while now. Something's up, and it might have something to do with a certain defenseman not making some smart decisions in front of the net.

I'm a Monahan fan, but when his line gets trapped in the D-zone for a minute or more I'm cringing and just hoping that he can pot a few goals at the other end to get his confidence back.

We are not the only team to make mistakes, but one of the few that have to watch a goal every time we do. Markstrom has been leaky over the last 5. His last two wins were against CHI and SEA. Only CHI was a game that he actually played well in.

I want so badly for Monahan to get back to form because I like him as a player but I think we've seen the best he has to offer going forward. I hope I'm wrong but he's just been so bad offensively. The injuries really impacted him.

Will be interesting to see what they do with him. The writing is on the wall that he’s the odd man out this offseason. That said, he’s sacrificed a lot trying to help the Flames succeed.

Can’t be many GM’s out there viewing him as a positive asset. Rutherford and Holland seem to be four years behind on the state of the league. Maybe one of them, but that’s not happening.

here comes the hindsight...95% of the hockey world loved the deal for the Flames at the time.

Bennett won the team lottery

What did the Sens get for Duclair again? he is doing even better than Bennett

They let him walk. It was actually pretty funny. He was his own agent and did his own negotiating. The Sens offered him 5x2. He wanted more term and the Sens moved on signing Evgeni Dadonov with the money put aside for him.

The best offer Duclair received after that was 3x3 with Florida. He earned a million less total and gave up an extra UFA year of playing to earn it. Although with less state tax in Florida, it was likely less of a hit to his bank account than it seems.

That’s total crap. We can argue what chances he was given over and over. Bennett was a top 6 here when it counted, in the playoffs. We don’t have to worry about this, this year as I see the Flames falling out of contention. 1 line can’t carry this team.

It sure counted last year. If he had played like a top six power forward, they would've been in the playoffs.

He was also offered a spot up in the lineup at training camp last year, but wanted to be a centreman. Most of the blame falls on Bennett. If you believe you're a number one centre, play like it no matter where you are in the lineup. He never forced the coach to move him up with his play.

That's only a positive if they never have to makeup the postponed games. If they have to grind out 4-5 games every week for the final month or so, there's little chance they'll have much left even if they do make the playoffs.

Panthers did make the playoffs. Where did you hear he was offered a spot? I must have missed that.

You apply at a job to become an accountant, they hire you and make you a cook, are you going to be happy and perform to the highest of your abilities, or look for an opportunity to become an accountant? He was given about 1 period of top 6 C opportunity. The blame falls on the organization that hired the guy, not on the guy being put in a position to fail.

There is also a 3 week period in February where no games are scheduled that they can use to make up games. Doesn't all have to be done by adding 1 game a week for the final 6 weeks. They can also extend the seasons end date a week or so if necessary.
